2019 Toyota Camry vs 2019 Chevy Impala

2019 Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is one of the most popular cars on the road, and it is all new for 2019. But Toyota?s venerable family sedan is not without its rivals, and the Chevy Impala is one potential usurper in the midsize car market. So which one is the sedan to choose? We stack up these two formidable four-doors on price, efficiency, performance, and more, using dealer information.

Engine/Performance/Efficiency

Performance is quite important when it comes to car comparisons as nowadays it?s all about who offers the most horsepower for your buck. We?ll be comparing the top tier trim packages for each car (Impala Premier W/2LZ, and Camry XSE V6).

Starting off with the Impala, we see it has an impressive 3.6 L V6 engine that is also paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. This powerhouse puts out 305 horsepower, and 264 lb-ft of torque. But for gains in power, the Impala has sacrificed efficiency as its gas mileage comes in at 28 MPG highway and 19 MPG city, or 22 MPG combined. With the Impala?s 18.5 gallon gas tank, this makes for a vehicle range of 296 miles on a single tank.

Next, we have the Camry also boasting a sizeable engine as it has a 3.5 L V6 under its hood, which is paired to a surprising quick 8-speed automatic transmission. This double threat combination produces 301 horsepower, and 267 lb-ft of torque. However, the Camry raises the bar for V6 sedans, as its fuel economy boasts a whopping 32 MPG highway and 22 MPG city, or 26 MPG combined. With the Camry?s slightly smaller 16 gallon gas tank, this totals out at a vehicle range of 416 miles on a single gas tank.

Safety Features and More

While both models have a perfect five out of five safety rating, there are some note worthy features that remain unique to each model.

Both models come with:

  1. Lane departure warnings
  2. Adaptive cruise control
  3. Forward collision warning systems
  4. Forward automatic braking
  5. Blind spot monitoring systems
  6. Rear parking sensors

the Impala pulls ahead in this comparison by showing off its remote start feature, along with its cornering brake control system. Both in which the Camry does not have.

While the Camry may not have:

  • remote start
  • cornering brake control system

it does retain its composure when flexed upon by the Impala. The Camry not only has rear parking sensors, but also has a birds eye view camera for parking in those extra tight spots. The Camry also not only has lane departure warnings, but it also activates its steering assist when it detects you drifting out of your lane.
